It's striking to observe a film exhibiting predictability, implausibility, and absurdity simultaneously, yet writer-director Chloe Domont’s first feature achieves this combination of disappointing qualities with surprising simplicity. This supposed psychological thriller steadily declines as its narrative, riddled with plot inconsistencies, shifts from a dull, secret workplace affair into an exaggerated conflict fueled by jealousy when one person receives a promotion over the other at a well-known Wall Street company. However, the progression of events is mostly ridiculous, despite containing a message that possesses some degree of value (though it feels somewhat commonplace now). The film could potentially be more engaging if the two lead characters (Phoebe Dynevor and Alden Ehrenreich) weren't so fundamentally unpleasant and portrayed with some of the most exaggerated performances I’ve witnessed recently. This is further compounded by one of the worst screenplays I’ve encountered, containing a comparable amount of cheap, unnecessary profanity as “The Wolf of Wall Street” (2013). Combining these elements results in an undeniable failure that makes 1980s television melodramas seem like grand narratives. Ultimately, experiencing this film leaves me feeling like something was unfair.
