The question of what a Fahrenheit 451 adaptation from today's culture warriors would look like is now answered. It’s centered on the destruction of books... and critical race theory… so the filmmakers seem to be suggesting that burning books by one group is wrong, as is “whiteness,” and these things are inherently evil. However, they also imply that some books should still be destroyed because allowing people access to them could lead to undesirable ideas, which is also a negative thing. Because of this contradiction, the film struggles to establish itself. It manages, though, to transform a movie about censorship into something that pushes pro-censorship politics alongside revisionist history from the 1619 Project, ultimately rendering it impossible to enjoy. Perhaps that was the goal all along. But I suspect Jordan simply became overwhelmed and frustrated, abandoned any real effort, and rushed through production just to be finished with it.
