I’m honestly thankful I don’t understand Formula 1 racing. Despite my complete lack of knowledge about the sport, it was still obvious to me how fabricated everything felt. The very first scene made me think, "No way. Settle down." But frankly, that's beside the point. This has all the signs of a Jerry Bruckheimer production—it’s silly and entertaining. It *has* to be somewhat mindless to be this enjoyable. Whenever they brought up the '90s, I couldn't help but connect it with what was popular during Bruckheimer’s peak years. Like Con Air or The Rock. It embodies everything we miss from those older movies—the kind that were heavy-handed with stereotypes and felt simplistic, even—and it's almost funny that we're getting something like this from Apple, of all companies. But I’m not going to argue about it. Seeing this reminded me of Top Gun: Maverick, which was also a welcome change of uncomplicated entertainment, and unsurprisingly, it’s directed by the same person. Definitely worth seeing, though maybe frustrating if you're knowledgeable about motorsports.
