Following Top Gun: Maverick, I was looking forward to seeing what Joseph Kosinski would do next, and he certainly didn’t disappoint. This feels like a wonderful continuation of his previous work, sharing the same spirit and excitement, but shifting the focus from fighter planes to the intense reality of Grand Prix racing. Sonny Hayes, portrayed by Brad Pitt (Ad Astra), alongside Damson Idris (Outside The Wire) as Joshua Pearce, also known as JP, Kerry Condon (Rome, Star Wars: Skeleton Crew) as Kate McKenna, Javier Bardem (Dune Part 2) as Ruben Cervantes, Tobias Menzies (The Way Up) as Peter Banning, Shea Wigham (Kong: Skull Island, Mission: Impossible - The Final Reckoning) as Chip Hart, Kim Bodina (Killing Eve) as Kasper Smilonski, Sarah Niles (Viewpoint) as Bernadette Pearce, Will Merrick (Barbie) as Hugh Nickleby, Callie Cooke (Doctor Who) as Jodie and Abdul Sallis (Mufasa: The Lion King) as Dodge Dowda, create a compelling story. The connection between Sonny Hayes and his younger teammate was especially strong—similar to the dynamic of Maverick and Rooster, but set within the world of motorsports. Their disagreements and eventual understanding gave the narrative real emotional depth. Like Top Gun: Maverick, this film has something for everyone, not just those who are already fans. The romantic storyline involving Kate McKenna also worked really well, feeling genuine and natural—it reminded me of Penny Benjamin’s character without trying to replicate it exactly. Kosinski once again brings his unique style and passion, creating a movie that is both thrilling and respectful of the tradition of speed and storytelling. It seems like an appropriate tribute to George Lucas, whose interest in racing began even before he started making movies. This film isn't just designed to entertain audiences; it’s a significant moment for motorsport and will likely expand the F1 fanbase. I am eager for Top Gun 3, but right now I’m very pleased to have experienced this instead. Kosinski continues to show that he is one of the most dependable blockbuster directors currently working. The music by Hans Zimmer (The Creator), cinematography by Claudio Miranda (Spiderhead) and direction by Joseph Kosinski (Oblivion, Top Gun: Maverick) are all exceptional. A Fantastic Encore from Joseph Kosinski - A Love Letter to Speed and Storytelling 8/10.
