It feels like a Ted Bundy story produced by Disney before they embraced progressive values, where he’s the charming prince. The aspects of his crimes are toned down so much that it gives the impression the filmmakers believed in his innocence. It’s a film about a serial killer and rapist that seems determined not to cause offense. That's a misstep because serial killers and rapists *are* inherently offensive—so much so that we imprison them for life or execute them, except in California, Washington, Oregon, DC, Chicago, New York, or New Jersey, where the emphasis is on incarcerating those who defended themselves. That’s likely why, by trying to make a movie about a serial killer and rapist while avoiding potential triggers, they ended up making Ted Bundy appear almost heroic.
