The movie shares similarities with "Cabin in the Woods" and an alien abduction story. A group of five young adults goes to a secluded home in rural Washington for a weekend getaway, but unsettling and frightening events begin, apparently connected to otherworldly beings. Gil Bellows portrays the local sheriff, and Michael Ironside appears as a character described as “crazy” and living alone. "Extraterrestrial" from 2014 follows a similar storyline to "Night Skies" from 2007, but it benefits from a larger budget and generally better filmmaking techniques, along with subtle dark humor that makes for a more engaging story. Elements reminiscent of “Close Encounters of the Third Kind,” “Signs,” “The Forgotten,” and “Dark Skies” are also present. The screenwriters incorporated common tropes associated with alien encounters—such as unidentified flying objects, people who believe in conspiracies without mainstream support, references to Roswell, examinations of bodies, and so on—weaving them into the narrative. Like "Night Skies," the conclusion delivers everything a viewer might hope for in this type of film. I won't elaborate further; suffice it to say that the movie doesn’t hold back, and the special effects are well-executed. Anja Savcic is memorable among the female cast members as the blonde character. Brittany Allen (as April) and Melanie Papalia (as Melanie) also appear, with Brittany taking on the role of the lead protagonist, or “final girl.” The film’s length is 1 hour and 41 minutes; it was filmed in Port McNeill, British Columbia, located on the northeastern coast of Vancouver Island, approximately a six-hour drive northwest of Vancouver.
