This action adventure doesn’t bring much fresh material to the table; it feels like a standard plot we’ve seen many times before. The story revolves around the predictable puzzle of who possesses the launch codes, and involves Sly Stallone’s character, "Barney," enlisting his close friend "Christmas" (Jason Statham) and their team of skilled fighters to stop an unidentified criminal plotting to equip a ship with nuclear missiles and trigger World War III. A sad event occurs early on, forcing "Christmas" out of the initial mission so he can seek retribution. Naturally, he doesn’t stay put, and quickly finds himself attempting to rescue his captured companions before everything spirals out of control. The film is propelled forward by numerous explosions, a somewhat forced romantic spark between characters (including Megan Fox's "Gina"), and a constant barrage of gunfire and missiles, but the narrative itself is incredibly weak; figuring out who the villain is isn’t difficult, nor is the final plot twist surprising in any way. It’s nice to see Dolph Lundgren still appearing in films, but beyond that, this is fairly forgettable material, even with Statham's typically engaging presence.
