The horror in Exhuma feels like it draws on typical Eastern sensibilities, which is understandable given that it's a South Korean movie. However, many of the scary parts go beyond specific cultures and create moments that are genuinely unsettling. The scenes involving the reanimated dead—as spirits and ghouls—are quite frightening. They’re executed effectively, with a convincing sense of reality, which builds up an atmosphere of growing unease. One area where viewers from Western backgrounds might find this film challenging is in its Eastern, specifically Korean, cultural and religious beliefs about the supernatural. Personally, I occasionally had trouble fully grasping the story because of these elements. Overall, there’s a lot of potential for scares here; it tells a familiar story—a uniquely Eastern one—about evil rising from beyond death. People from Western countries might encounter some difficulties with certain parts, but seeing it is definitely worthwhile.
