The final scene really hits hard. AnnaLynne McCord portrays Pauline, a high school student struggling with mental health issues and fantasies of becoming a surgeon. Constantly controlled by her mother, she wrestles with her psychological state and unhealthy fixations. It's remarkable—a horror film centered on teenagers that tackles intense subjects like necrophilia, the challenges of adolescence, social anxieties, family conflict, mental illness, and genuine terror. Writer/director Richard Bates Junior manages to pack an 80-minute movie full of complex ideas without going too far over the top. He elicits strong performances from McCord and Traci Lords (as Pauline’s mother), while the combination of dreamlike sequences and uncomfortable real-world situations—along with some understated humor—creates a film that is both strange and deeply affecting. If Dead Ringers and Ginger Snaps had a baby, it would be Excision; it's something you won't easily forget. 9/10
