It feels like there’s nothing left to say about films involving artificial intelligence, but then Ex Machina appears and offers a refreshing viewpoint on the subject. The film moves at a brisk pace; not much occurs outwardly, yet everything is intelligent and carefully considered. The narrative emphasizes the ethical dilemmas faced by the human protagonist more than it does the wonder of creating something new or the philosophical questions surrounding AI’s existence. The acting performances are uniformly excellent, featuring Vikander, Mizuno, Glee, and a particularly strong Oscar Isaac. It's definitely worth seeing for anyone interested in this kind of story.
