Guy Hamilton manages to make something of this rather improbable Agatha Christie tale concerning the killing of an actress – portrayed as someone difficult to like by Diana Rigg – on a picturesque yet somewhat rundown island retreat overseen by Maggie Smith. Peter Ustinov is present, which proves fortunate, as he uses his intellect to figure out who was responsible for what and why. James Mason, Sylvia Miles, and Roddy McDowall are among those suspected as "Monsieur Poirot" attempts to discover the truth. It’s a pleasant enough experience, featuring some lovely views and several diverting side stories connected to the central plot, but it doesn't measure up quite so favorably against films like "Death on the Nile" or "Murder on the Orient Express."
