Evil Dead stands out as an exceptionally violent and unpleasant film experience. I really like that they chose a different path for this series, moving away from its earlier, more playful tone to create a truly intense and graphic horror movie. The special effects and gore are the best the franchise has ever seen, especially considering it came after such a long break of almost two decades. Certain moments have become unforgettable classics in horror, sticking with me since I first saw them. The scene involving the bread cutter is particularly repulsive—and executed brilliantly—and I was impressed by how much blood they used throughout. While the plot isn’t as detailed or developed as the original two films, it does explore some interesting ideas that I found worthwhile. Presenting a character in recovery from drug addiction proved to be an effective choice and provided a believable reason for keeping the characters isolated at the cabin. Her vulnerability made her an ideal candidate for the first possession, which worked very effectively. The dialogue and acting were pretty poor, though. With the exception of Jane Levy’s performance, most of the cast didn't do a great job. The writing felt cheesy and the delivery was often awkward. This resulted in a slow and uninspired start to the film, lasting about twenty minutes, but thankfully once the action begins, there are plenty of things to take your mind off it. Ultimately, the movie’s visuals and horror elements elevate it to its rating. It didn't quite live up to my expectations from when I was younger, but it remains one of the better remakes that have been made. Score: 73% 👍 Verdict: Good
