This film faced an uphill battle from the start; it was clear that many horror fans would find it difficult to accept, given Sam Raimi's initial movie’s status as something sacred that shouldn’t be altered—even though the sequel surpassed it. It appeared even before its release that some people were already disliking it. Is it possible to evaluate this horror film independently? Could there be a generation of horror enthusiasts who haven't experienced Raimi's trilogy and can therefore approach it with fresh eyes, experiencing genuine fright? I’m optimistic because this is an excellent remake. It delivers startling moments, plenty of blood and gore, and authentic scares, while Fede Alvarez and his collaborators contribute new elements to Raimi’s original vision. It’s exactly what it appears to be: a horror reimagining of a beloved classic that amplifies the frights and utilizes modern techniques to shock, disturb, and unsettle. It might seem nonsensical or silly at times, but this is one of the stronger horror remakes in recent memory, truly unsettling. Well done, you undead muthas. 8/10
