It’s great to see Sam Raimi and Bruce Campbell returning with this reimagining of their original The Evil Dead (1981), which has a bigger budget and more obvious jokes. A short introduction establishes the situation effectively, then suddenly! Ash (Campbell) and his girlfriend find themselves in a cabin facing a night filled with intense demonic horror. This is a darkly comedic experience where Raimi and Campbell welcome viewers to an event before enthusiastically overwhelming them—and we willingly participate in this unusual dynamic! Ash demonstrates newfound courage and chooses to confront the evil entities, leading to plenty of action sequences featuring a chainsaw and shotgun. Even while he’s being thrown around, our hero has something witty to say that helps move things along. Raimi avoids unnecessary scenes or explanations; instead, he presents the story directly as it rapidly moves forward, showcasing his abilities in cinematography and sound. The comedy is frequently wild and insane, and it's refreshing to see filmmakers who don’t feel obligated to splatter blood everywhere just for shock value. Completely crazy, frightening, and wickedly amusing. 8/10
