It really didn’t capture the essence of an Evil Dead film. There was an attempt to develop the characters through explorations of familial issues, but that effort fell flat. The brutality felt gratuitous—though I acknowledge the irony in criticizing this in an Evil Dead context. Because there's nobody to connect with or support, the abundant gore loses its effect. Having really liked *Evil Dead Rise*, I anticipated something good from this one, and I’m disappointed with what ended up on screen.
