The sense of connection to previous installments in the Evil Dead series appears to be fading. While I didn’t find this film particularly strong as an entry in that franchise, I did recognize themes related to trauma, abuse, and recovery woven throughout the story. It gave the impression of a movie with a different title altogether being branded with the Evil Dead name. The established lore has taken some unexpected turns over time, which isn't entirely surprising given that it includes something like Army of Darkness. The actors portraying the main characters were largely unremarkable, except for Souheila Yacoub in the role of our final girl and Eroll Shand as the Deadite Edgar. I hope Hunter Doohan will have opportunities to play characters different from the unpleasant, fearful type he often portrays; it’s starting to feel like a recurring limitation. Overall, my rating is 6/10. It wasn't particularly noteworthy, but also not poorly made.
