The movie manages to find a good equilibrium, incorporating intelligent references back to Evil Dead Rise while also hinting at a deeper connection to the earlier films. Instead of relying on familiar callbacks, it utilizes those classic components to create a story that feels new yet remains faithful to what makes the series special. Changing the location proves to be an excellent choice. Taking the horror away from Rise’s confined city apartment and placing it in a large, remote farmhouse generates a completely different kind of feeling of being closed in. The rural setting and isolated area evoked strong impressions similar to Resident Evil 7: Biohazard's Baker family storyline – that unsettling sensation of being stuck with an unstable, hostile family before the supernatural elements even begin. The film certainly doesn’t disappoint when the Deadites appear. Recent Evil Dead installments have significantly increased the intensity and brutality of the gore, and Burn follows suit. What makes it so effective is how physically impactful the action sequences are. Combining intense sound design with a focus on practical effects over computer-generated imagery means that every injury, splatter of blood, and gruesome change feels disturbingly genuine and harsh. It’s genuinely heartening to see films like this doing well, particularly since horror seemed to have been in a bit of a slump lately. We're now receiving a consistent flow of imaginative, high-quality genre movies that treat the audience with respect and make seeing them on the big screen worthwhile. I would definitely suggest Evil Dead Burn to any fan of horror. The best way to appreciate these newer installments is to view them separately from Raimi’s original films from the 1980s. Those were defining works of their time, but this current period is embracing a darker, more raw style of horror. Both periods are exceptional in their own ways, and Burn demonstrates that this franchise still has plenty left to offer.
