Everything Everywhere All at Once came with a lot of anticipation, and it didn’t quite live up to the five-star experience I thought it would be. The film isn't bad overall; there's a basic storyline interwoven with complicated ideas that tries to juggle the wild concept of the multiverse alongside an exploration of the relationship between a mother and daughter. While this bond showed development as the story progressed, it didn’t really manage to engage me on an emotional level. I recognized what I was supposed to feel during key scenes, but struggled to truly connect with them. The acting was very good. Ke Huy Quan stood out and was definitely one of the best parts of the movie. Seeing him transition from a naive husband into a warrior spanning multiple universes had me laughing out loud. Michelle Yeoh is also excellent and worthy of all the recognition and awards she’s receiving. Even though I didn't feel as connected to the story as I wanted, the action sequences really elevate the film. There’s something so compelling about watching older women perform intricate kung fu moves against each other. The intensity is well done and entertaining. Adding to the appeal of the action are the bizarre actions the characters have to do to access their abilities from different universes; these were strange, crude, and some of the most surprising things I've seen on film.
