This movie felt like a modern retelling of Rapunzel, though there are comparisons to be made with films such as 'Tangled' and 'The Space Between Us,' as well as movies that deal with cancer themes. Despite these similarities, it manages to feel distinct because of the reasons that become clear throughout the story, even if it’s clearly influenced by the Rapunzel fairy tale. The writing, direction, and acting were all good; it wasn't a typical teen romance. While there was emotional depth in the romantic storyline, the way the two main characters interacted felt uneven at times. However, this didn't detract from the overall experience because the story is told through the girl’s point of view. The movie centers on a teenage girl with SCID who has spent almost her entire life confined to her home. That changes when new neighbors move in next door. The boy starts showing an interest in her, and they begin communicating via text messages. Their relationship evolves, leading to some intense moments. The film explores how the girl’s medical condition and the couple's developing feelings affect them both. I realize now that I probably missed a lot of important details from the original story, so I’m considering reading the book to understand things better, particularly the boy’s perspective. Nevertheless, the movie was enjoyable and charming; there wasn't anything about it that made me dislike it. I appreciate when stories are simplified or adapted for the screen. The young actors were excellent, and this is certainly an overlooked film. As always, disregard what professional critics say and listen to what fans have to say, especially if you’re younger—you really should check this one out. _8/10_
