It’s a fairly dull road movie. Robert De Niro portrays a man grieving the loss of his wife who finds himself disheartened when his four children decline an invitation to spend Thanksgiving together; consequently, he embarks on a journey to visit each of them individually (played by Kate Beckinsale, Sam Rockwell and Drew Barrymore), which involves traveling across the nation over roughly a week. I’m puzzled by the favorable reviews this has received. It's true that the film is competently produced, boasts an excellent ensemble cast, and attempts to make a worthwhile observation, however, it feels monotonous throughout its entire duration. Perhaps the narrative resonates more strongly with viewers who can identify with De Niro’s character; otherwise, it comes across as a protracted and uninspired road movie. A lack of excitement is, in my view, an unforgivable flaw in movies. If you're interested in seeing Sam Rockwell and Kate Beckinsale in a remarkable drama, I suggest watching "Snow Angels" from 2007.
