It’s not particularly memorable, though nothing about it is awful. Clint Eastwood performs adequately, and the actors playing the smaller roles—Geoffrey Lewis, Sondra Locke, and Ruth Gordon—have occasional bright spots. The story wanders somewhat and lacks consistent engagement, even with the inclusion of an orangutan in 'Every Which Way but Loose'. The film felt too slow for my taste, and I found the characters who aren’t the central figure to be uninteresting, including John Quade & Co. and the police officers. However, I did appreciate the music; that’s probably the film's biggest strength, if I'm being truthful. I don’t have high hopes for 'Any Which Way You Can', the follow-up, but I will watch it.
