The storytelling in Eternals isn’t without problems that impact how it flows and moves along, yet Chloé Zhao still created a worthwhile addition to the Marvel franchise. The movie features really strong performances from a fantastic group of actors, and while Zhao uses some tried-and-true Marvel approaches, her personal touch adds fresh elements—like the beautiful visuals and thoughtful exploration of belief and what it means to be human. Even though the script relies heavily on explaining things, the characters, who are diverse and inclusive but not fully realized, still have believable connections with each other. People looking for a lot of action will find it here, but this film feels like a departure from previous MCU movies more than any before it. It seems designed to provoke disagreement, and I’m glad to say that I enjoyed it. Rating: B
