Despite feeling somewhat slow-paced and revisiting familiar themes often seen in films about queer youth—those complicated romantic feelings and sexual uncertainties of adolescence—Eternal Summer manages to be more subtle, well-crafted, and emotionally resonant than many similar stories. The distinctive Asian backdrop contributes to setting it apart. The performances are adequate, the script is serviceable, and the camerawork is capable even though it has a homemade quality ... It's something you could spend some time watching.
