I initially assumed this would follow the familiar pattern of some Chinese films, where only characters portrayed as Chinese possess special abilities. However, it turned out that every male character in the film has powers—a form of equality, I suppose, if you happen to be male. It's hard not to notice how disappointing it is that Jaime King’s character is eliminated early on because of a relationship with a man old enough to be her grandfather. But what exactly is _The Extractors_ trying to do? Surprisingly, the action sequences are better than those in the earlier _Escape Plan_, even though that film was entirely focused on fighting. I also found myself believing Devon Sawa—who thankfully doesn't appear to be seventeen anymore—as the antagonist. Nevertheless, it’s clear that this feels like two separate movies forced together or perhaps one movie with an extra plot added in to include a required storyline from a Chinese business partner. It’s hard to say which is true, but either explanation seems plausible given how disjointed it feels. _The Extractors_ shares many of the same issues as its predecessor, yet it's still a more enjoyable film, even if it isn't particularly good. It’s regrettable that the _Escape Plan_ series began with some potential—not exactly "strong," but promising, I think—and hasn't really realized what Schwarzenegger and Stallone could have achieved with it. _Final rating:★★½ - There were aspects of this movie that appealed to me, but ultimately it didn’t quite come together._
