This action movie starring Schwarzenegger functions adequately but ultimately feels foolish and unmemorable. A US marshal who specializes in witness protection (Schwarzenegger) has a job that involves making people disappear—changing their identities to keep them safe, including a woman (Vanessa Williams) holding crucial information against a company that makes advanced weaponry. As he does his work, the marshal begins to question some of those around him. James Caan and Robert Pastorelli also appear in roles. "Eraser," released in 1996, is a skillfully made action movie with Schwarzenegger; Vanessa Williams is attractive, Robert Pastorelli provides some laughs, and James Caan delivers a solid performance. There's an exciting sequence involving skydiving, and the scene set at the zoo featuring crocodiles and alligators is quite well-executed. However, I didn’t find myself engaged by the initial part of the story due to its complicated plot, and the concluding action felt lackluster and predictable. Siskel & Ebert unexpectedly gave this a positive review; it's hard to understand their reasoning. The movie has a running time of 1 hour, 55 minutes, and filming took place in Southern California, New York City, New Jersey, Washington D.C., Maryland, and New Brunswick, Canada. GRADE: C+
