The film "Eo" centers around a donkey whose early existence involved performing in a circus. After being freed due to Polish government regulations, the movie chronicles its journey as it’s moved to an equestrian center, where loneliness and minor disruptions ensue. It then spends time at a sanctuary before escaping, following a short reunion with a former circus colleague named Cassandra (Sandra Drzymalska), and experiencing several other unusual incidents across what appears to be the entire country. The story unfolds from the donkey's point of view—though not through its direct perception—presenting the world as it might perceive it. This perspective doesn’t flatter humanity; we witness both positive and negative aspects of human nature. While acts of kindness and compassion are shown, so too is brutality and aggression, making for a sometimes disturbing viewing experience that can elicit discomfort. Director Jerzy Skolimowski demonstrates the wide range (and often unpleasantness) of human behavior without offering explicit commentary, instead utilizing "Eo" as an innocent, sympathetic vehicle to convey his message and leaving it up to viewers to form their own opinions. I personally had some difficulty with how things concluded, and occasionally the story felt a bit far-fetched—particularly involving the wolves and later events—but overall, this remains a uniquely captivating and stimulating tale not only concerning animals and humanity's treatment of them but also about how people interact with one another. Those prone to motion sickness should be aware of the frequent flickering lighting, and I thought the musical score was occasionally excessive, though I did find it worthwhile and would suggest seeing it if you have ninety minutes to spare for a fresh perspective on life.
