Within Hong Kong under British rule, “Braithwaite” (Geoffrey Weeks) attempts to enlist the help of celebrated martial artist "Lee" (Bruce Lee) to assist law enforcement in stopping the criminal operations of local boss "Han" (Kien Shih), who bears a striking resemblance to someone from "Dr. No" (1962). Fortunately, this antagonist is planning a tournament on his island, which seems like an ideal chance to apprehend him. However, “Han” isn’t naive and has his own bodyguard, “Oharra” (Robert Wall), along with John Saxon's skilled fighter "Roper" and his associate "Williams" (Jim Kelly) who also present challenges. It doesn’t seem right to be overly critical of this film fifty years after its release; it was innovative for its time, presenting a distinctive perspective on a culture that Hollywood had largely ignored. Nevertheless, watching it now can be quite frustrating. The editing is chaotic, the continuity suffers, and the direction isn't particularly noteworthy. The lines are awkward, and while Bruce Lee moves with incredible agility, he doesn’t come across as a convincing performer. To give him credit, the other actors aren't strong either, nor is the rather un-Asian score by Lalo Schifrin – so it falls to the action sequences. These are large in scope, occasionally impressive, and highlight the star’s undeniable abilities, but the entire film felt like a combination of "Fu Manchu" and "The Man from U.N.C.L.E." Perhaps it's disrespectful to say this, but I found it somewhat entertaining due to its sincerity and has clearly passed its prime.
