Endgame incorporates all the elements you’d expect to find in a low-budget, post-apocalyptic film reminiscent of those from the early 1980s. It features an oppressive, authoritarian government and police officers dressed in dark military gear, along with a jaded press covering televised combat events. There are also marginalized people who have developed mutations, vehicles modified with scrap metal, motorcycles, machine guns, spiked weapons, and even a crossbow that can be worn. While ordinary citizens wear tattered clothing, the characters involved in action sequences seem to have outfitted themselves with leather and studs taken from a local opera house. The setting is a future where masculinity is exaggerated and women are portrayed in traditional roles; notably, the female protagonist endures a violent assault by an antagonist who resembles a silverfish, while simultaneously communicating reassurance to the male hero through telepathy. The film has a certain charm due to its low production values, including noticeably poor dubbing, and the visuals frequently transition between industrial landscapes and concrete structures to expanses of sand. Aside from those unsettling scenes that reflect outdated social norms, Endgame is surprisingly well-paced and consistently delivers action without becoming tedious. There are numerous opportunities for personal interpretations and humorous asides without disrupting the overall experience. The movie's promotional poster bears only a passing resemblance to the film itself, drawing "inspiration" from the conventions of this particular subgenre.
