The movie Encounter has solid acting, but ultimately doesn’t offer a fresh or exciting twist on the “alien invasion” genre. Riz Ahmed does what he can to support Michael Pearce's film, however, the predictable and commonplace storyline struggles to create characters that keep audiences engaged until the resolution. Technically, nothing really distinguishes itself enough to elevate the movie. The whole thing feels derivative of other films, and its ideas have been explored many times before. When a story and its people don’t feel original, it's hard for viewers to become invested. Rating: C-
