It's a respectable version of Jane Austen’s story, but it doesn’t rank as one of my absolute favorites. There aren't any major flaws holding it back; instead, some smaller choices in the screenplay kept it from being truly exceptional. I was hoping for a more extensive depiction of Emma’s time with Miss Bates following her regret over mistreating the woman. Aside from that, I found myself enjoying the film adequately. The performances and writing were generally strong, aside from those specific instances I pointed out, and I imagine I'd watch it again at some point.
