While the film occasionally felt like it was pushing its message too hard, which seems to be a consistent element in Neil Blomkamp’s work, I still found myself engaged from beginning to end. The special effects were generally well-done, although some individual scenes weren't quite as polished, and Matt Damon delivered a solid performance. It didn’t entirely achieve the emotional resonance it seemed to aim for at the close, but I did enjoy it considerably and believe it surpasses even District 9—a film that, in my opinion, is overrated beyond its visual accomplishments—and is significantly better than Chappie. **3.75/5**
