Ciarán Foy, who previously directed _Citadel_, a film from 2012 that I think deserves more recognition, was the reason I decided to watch _Eli_ without knowing much about it beforehand. I anticipated liking it simply because of his involvement. Unfortunately, my expectations weren't met. The visual effects used to depict Eli’s skin condition—the way the rashes appear and vanish—were remarkably well done; I really did find them impressive. However, the supposed enigmas that drive the story become apparent very early on, and they are stretched out for an excessive amount of time. Ultimately, only around half of those mysteries receive explanations in a single moment, and even those resolutions left me feeling let down. _Final rating:★★ - It had elements I appreciated, but it didn't come together well._
