"Elf," which premiered in 2003 and comes from director Jon Favreau, tells the story of an infant raised as an elf after sneaking onto Santa Claus’s sleigh. Will Ferrell plays Buddy, the orphaned child who is taken in by Papa Elf at the North Pole. As he grows up among elves, Buddy journeys to New York City to find his human father, portrayed by James Caan, and becomes involved with both his half-brother and a saleswoman from a department store (Zooey Deschanel). He also plays a role in bringing Christmas spirit as Santa Claus, played by Ed Asner, makes an appearance. It’s a generally enjoyable holiday film, largely thanks to Ferrell's comedic performance. The movie is consistently funny and has a pleasant message about Christmas. The 97-minute production took place in both New York City and Vancouver. GRADE: B+
