Vincent Price devoted years to crafting something precious—a manufactured being, essentially a "son," who was nearly complete except for his hands—and he briefly possessed two pairs of scissors for this project. Regrettably, the creator passed away before he could finish the task, leaving young “Edward” (Johnny Depp) isolated in his high-perched home. He remained alone until a compassionate Dianne Wiest ("Peg") offered him support, introduced him to her circle of acquaintances—including Winona Ryder (“Kim”), who is performing exceptionally well—and they collectively noticed his extraordinary talent for shaping plants and styling hair. Before long, he became incredibly popular, the subject of widespread conversation, yet always feeling like an outsider. Predictably, when something goes wrong—specifically a theft in which he’s wrongly accused—his superficial companions quickly abandon him. It's a poignant story about purity and compassion; Depp portrays his character with considerable skill, blending gentleness and amusement, and the final thirty minutes offer a sharp critique of carelessness and self-centeredness that continues to be relevant. As with numerous "fairy" tales, it’s based on sound principles, and Tim Burton has created an insightful and entertaining contemporary fable that evokes laughter, joy, and a sense of embarrassment simultaneously.
