Julianne Moore gives a committed performance, yet even her efforts can't prevent this family drama from feeling contrived and unbelievable. She portrays “Kate,” who manages an equestrian center supported financially by her former spouse, Kyle MacLachlan. However, she’s struggling emotionally following the loss of her wife. The situation worsens when their daughter, "Claire," played by Sydney Sweeney, appears with her drug-dependent boyfriend, Edmund Donovan, and then their volatile dealer, Domnhall Gleeson. These arrivals trigger a chain of events that challenge “Kate” and her supportive friend, Fiona Shaw. The narrative stretches credibility too far; the plot developments are so transparent that some of "Kate’s" reactions seem almost absurd. It raises the question of what someone would do for their child, which seems to be at the story's core, but the situation itself and Gleeson’s underwhelming performance fail to resonate convincingly. The ending resembles a fairly standard Agatha Christie mystery—perhaps it seemed better on paper—and ultimately feels quite bland. While Moore demonstrates her considerable acting talent, the rest of this production is destined to be quickly forgotten television entertainment.
