I would strongly advise against having lunch beforehand if you plan on seeing this film. My experience involved pasta, a cozy seat in a darkened theater, and the story’s deliberate pacing, which combined to make it incredibly difficult to stay awake. From the beginning, I found myself struggling to connect the movie's title with anything happening onscreen (or at least, what I thought was happening). “Mia” (Ramane Hemelaers) resides in a sparsely furnished house, her only friend being her caretaker, "Scellinc" (Paul Hilton), who tends to both her and, notably, her teeth. This fairly ordinary pattern continues, broken up by visits from the housekeeper and occasional calls from their “masters.” The narrative truly gets going when one of these calls signals that it’s time for “Mia” to depart and meet them, at which point it seems to link with another storyline featuring "Céleste" (Ramola Garai) – a woman who had a previous unpleasant encounter with "Scellinc" in a bar resulting in facial scarring – as she travels by train alongside her benefactor, "Laurence" (Alex Lawther), who regularly provides her with laudanum to manage the pain. Calling it surreal would be an understatement; I honestly have no clue what purpose the final twenty minutes serve. The film carries a warning regarding gore, but I didn’t notice anything particularly graphic until very late in the movie, and even then, it wasn't shocking – overall, it felt like a rather unremarkable drama that left me wondering about its meaning and intended audience. While the cinematography is visually appealing, with careful attention to detail creating an elegant feel, there isn’t enough strong dialogue to clarify things, and after nearly two hours, I remained completely perplexed.
