It wasn't enjoyable, I don’t plan on rewatching it, and I can’t suggest others view it either. I recalled thinking this was pretty good when I first saw it, though that was at Vidcon, so perhaps the excitement influenced my perception. The film illustrates why many viewers dislike found footage; it feels hastily assembled, like a child put it together, and then there's narration and editing from the person holding the camera. That kind of thing isn’t inherently problematic, but this instance is disappointing. Found footage should feel discovered, but this comes across as more of a first-person account or a mock documentary. The character Echo (who is not male) is appealing enough, though spends considerable time out of sight and there's a communication problem, only working in one direction. If it can connect to a smartphone, then it ought to be able to utilize the device as a speaker to convey the language it understands from the boys. Much of the movie consists of young boys acting out and saying things like "girls have cooties, but I like it." It doesn't work as a story about growing up, it falls short as a love story, and only marginally succeeds as science fiction or an exploration of a sinister clandestine group. This could’ve been the next “E.T.”, but they simply made odd decisions throughout its creation.
