My wife and I watched this with our children, a seventh-grader and a kindergartner. To be honest, I wasn’t fully engaged; it had been a tiring week, and I was more interested in seeing how my youngest would react. There were quite a few questions to answer while watching with my five-year-old, but she absolutely adored it—her eyes were wide with wonder, she cried at the emotional moments, and cheered “YEAH!” during the bicycle sequences. Certain of the special effects look noticeably old now, and it’s strange seeing these older films with kids who are so accustomed to everything being computer-generated. Even my seventh grader pointed out that some parts seemed quite genuine, which I found unexpected.
