I have complicated feelings about this newest installment in the Dune series. Going into the cinema, I wasn’t very familiar with the story, which made the beginning somewhat disorienting. But as things unfolded, it gave me vibes of Star Wars combined with Tremors—an unusual but interesting combination. Timothée Chalamet is easily among my three favorite actors, and he lived up to expectations in this film. Rebecca Ferguson was also excellent, embodying a regal character with poise. The movie featured a really diverse group of performers, which enriched the narrative. The visuals were remarkable; I especially noticed the aircraft that looked like dragonflies and some truly mesmerizing imagery. However, it was hard for me to completely grasp what was going on, and I was left with quite a few questions. It proved to be an enjoyable viewing experience, but there wasn't a strong foundation laid out for another film in the series, which was a letdown. Zendaya’s part, which had been heavily advertised, ended up being fairly small, and that might frustrate some viewers. Conversely, it was nice to see Jason Momoa and Dave Bautista taking on different kinds of roles, demonstrating their range as actors. The way they presented Chalamet felt a little unnatural, but it didn't really detract from the overall impression. Even with its shortcomings, I think Dune could develop into a successful series if given the opportunity. It might not have had quite the same impact as some other initial films in franchises, but it’s worth seeing for the sheer spectacle of it all. I would give it a six out of ten; Chalamet and Ferguson were definitely standouts with their strong performances. Ultimately, Dune is a film that deserves to be seen, particularly in a movie theater. It has what it takes to become a lasting franchise, but whether or not it succeeds will depend on how audiences respond. Give it a try and see for yourself the promise this film possesses.
