Dune establishes a new benchmark for grand filmmaking, boasting stunning visuals, impactful sound design and music, and an engaging narrative presented on an immense scale. Denis Villeneuve has created another audiovisual triumph, even with some problems in the story's rhythm stemming from extensive explanations and dreamlike scenes that feel necessary but recurring. Timothée Chalamet and Rebecca Ferguson are particularly noteworthy within a cast where all of the actors give remarkable performances. The depth of the characters and their consistently interesting relationships, alongside the impressive action and warfare sequences, demonstrate how skillfully the complex script is adapted for cinema; it’s an experience best had in theaters. It's also worth remembering that large-scale science fiction or fantasy films don't appear very often, so appreciate them while you can rather than focusing on how they measure up to other franchises. There's room enough to appreciate every one of them. Rating: A-
