While I understand that many people enjoy this film, and the book it’s based on, my initial experience watching it was just average. I can recognize the quality of certain visual and practical effects, especially considering when it was made, but the plot and characters didn't really resonate with me. It wasn't a dull movie by any means, but I also didn't feel particularly invested in what was happening. Maybe this is how it felt reading the book, but the central character portrayed by Kyle MacLachlan seemed to encounter very little real struggle beyond a final fight scene with Sting—a confrontation that felt disappointing and abrupt, especially since he’d already taken vengeance for his father’s death. I'm not sure I have a strong desire to rewatch it anytime soon, though I am curious about Denis Villeneuve’s version. **3.0/5**
