I’m not a fan of the initial 1941 version; it's among Disney’s lesser animated features, and that’s something to keep in mind. The 2019 *Dumbo* film is better than its predecessor, though admittedly, that wasn’t a high standard to meet. This one has an actual plot, which I found enjoyable, and the live-action format really helped me get invested in the – let's face it – pretty ridiculous story. Still, it isn't flawless; the rhythm feels uneven, and the villains are somewhat bothersome, even though they’re well-chosen actors. Colin Farrell does a good job with his part, and Danny DeVito is a predictable but great choice for Max Medici. Michael Keaton and Eva Green also fit their roles well. There was an amusing appearance from Michael Buffer too. The child actors weren't particularly impressive, however. Since the original film lacked any real people, this one had to invent that element, and I think they did a decent job with it. Dumbo is as adorable as ever, and his story is genuinely touching; those were probably the only things the earlier movie got right. I enjoyed this remake overall.
