Receiving a baby from the stork fills Mrs. Jumbo with immense joy. Her son seems perfect in every way, aside from one peculiar detail: he has a habit of getting tangled up in his own ears. Quickly becoming an object of laughter, she finds herself imprisoned, and he’s treated like nothing more than a sideshow attraction. Eventually, circumstances lead him to encounter the encouraging "Timothy Q. Mouse," who, with some careful encouragement, helps the elephant develop a positive outlook, transforming those troublesome ears into something useful! The sequence involving the three crows is iconic in film history, as is the Oliver Wallace and Ned Washington song "When I See an Elephant Fly." While the initial story is amusing and heartfelt, exploring the negative impact of teasing and derision, Disney softens these themes somewhat. Nevertheless, they remain present for viewers to notice, value, and hopefully retain within this vibrant and entertaining animated film—complete with pink elephants!
