This movie isn’t funny in the slightest. “George of the Jungle” proved to be a diverting and amusing film that highlighted Brendan Fraser’s comedic abilities and offered an enjoyable spoof of Tarzan. This one, though, doesn't work at all because it’s essentially a badly thought-out and uninspired imitation of “George.” The filmmakers apparently tried to draw inspiration from a little-known cartoon about a character associated with the Royal Canadian Mounted Police. I can’t imagine that organization was thrilled by the unexpected attention, but putting that aside—along with any hint of American arrogance toward Canada—the movie simply isn't humorous. What this film has going for it is the cast, beginning with Brendan Fraser. He gives it his all and does what he can, but he’s stuck with weak material. Sara Jessica Parker also provides a pleasant performance as the hero’s goofy girlfriend, and Alfred Molina delivers as well. The trouble is that the actors, no matter how much effort they put in individually, were given substandard writing; instead of a solid script, the screenwriter provided an amateurish and disappointing series of gags. Aside from the cast's talent and their considerable efforts, the film is a complete failure. The lines are awful, and the humor depends on predictable slapstick or juvenile bathroom jokes. The production values aren’t impressive either; it looks very low-budget.
