While Dual’s narrative follows a recognizable pattern, Karen Gillan delivers an intentionally subdued but captivating performance, and the premise of confronting one's self in a life-or-death duel while a duplicate assumes your identity provides enough interest to make it worth watching. It stands apart from typical mainstream movies, though it doesn’t quite live up to what it could be. Riley Stearns has demonstrated a knack for humor previously, but Dual misses the opportunity to elicit genuine laughter. The movie offers an unusual take on something familiar and tries to explore uncharted areas; however, it struggles to completely embrace the quirky absurdities that usually define Riley Stearns’ films.
