Drop Zone attempts to be like Point Break, though it goes overboard with its use of computer-generated imagery. Wesley Snipes portrays US Marshal Pete Nessip—also credited as Wesley Snipes—alongside his brother Terry, played by Malcolm Jamal Warner, who are responsible for moving a prisoner via airplane when the flight is seized by hijackers. The group of criminals, under the direction of Ty Moncrief (Gary Busey), take control of the captive and jump from the aircraft at an extreme height using parachutes. Pete’s superiors assumed that all the hijackers perished after his brother shot one of them, which resulted in a blast. Pete isn't sure they are dead and begins investigating on his own. He encounters Jessie Crossman (Yancy Butler), a female skydiver, and uncovers hints by spending time with other parachutists. The movie manages to mix humor and action reasonably well and features likable performers, but some of the action sequences didn't quite work out; certain parts appeared low-budget.
