I’ve never felt a strong connection with Ryan Gosling's performances (which is likely why it took me so long to watch _Drive_), but I appreciate the work of almost everyone else in the film, though I wasn't aware they were involved until I started watching. While _Drive_ didn’t change my opinion of Gosling, it absolutely introduced me to Director Nicolas Winding Refn. The direction is really what stands out in _Drive_. There are a few things stylistically that didn't quite land for me, like those montages with so much emphasis on the vocals, and I wasn't particularly fond of Gosling’s character; he came across as rather unpleasant. However, I was generally impressed, and I plan to keep an eye out for Refn’s future projects. _Drive_ had some incredibly intense moments of extreme violence, and it also gave me a genuine jump scare – the first one in what feels like forever. _Final rating:★★★½ - I enjoyed it quite a bit.
