After a housewife is murdered, the sole witness joins forces with her son to track down the killer. Their search leads them to a psychiatrist who had treated the victim and who attempts to prevent them from uncovering the truth behind the crime. This film proved to be surprisingly enjoyable. Much of what works well in the movie stems from how it acknowledges its influences, embracing familiar elements. The structure itself is quite deliberate: the first half concentrates on the victim before shifting into an investigation of the events that transpired. This approach creates a good deal of entertainment as it incorporates subtle alterations to the storyline. That sense of familiarity contributes significantly to the film’s pacing, keeping things more engaging than one might expect, even with limited graphic violence throughout. There's a strong focus on the murder investigation and her involvement in therapy, which allows for an interesting exploration of fan communities through the introduction of both police work and an amateur investigation sparked by a fleeting piece of evidence from the initial crime scene. These elements combine to create a distinct atmosphere that feels very much like other films in this genre, allowing it to comfortably explore themes of sleaze, not just through nudity but also through explicit sex scenes and the killer’s psychosexual motivations, which are clearly inspired by that particular style of thriller. Even with some well-executed stalker sequences—including the initial attack in an elevator, a scene on the subway, and the final confrontation at the office—which build suspense, it doesn't compensate for the lack of slasher action. The thriller elements take precedence, resulting in fewer stalking scenes and a low body count that limits the bloodshed or gore. Those seeking a traditional slasher film will likely be disappointed.
