It’s not as bad as people make out... The story involves a group of friends who know each other well, facing off against an alien invasion, and relying on unique abilities to attempt a rescue of the planet. While it may not be the greatest movie based on Stephen King's work, it also isn’t among the worst. Some performances feel over-the-top, the computer-generated imagery is questionable, and familiar Stephen King elements are abundant; however, these issues don't prevent it from being an easygoing diversion, provided you aren't anticipating something profound. Damien Lewis really shines, particularly when playing a reserved character, and most of the other actors do a decent job, though Tom Sizemore and Morgan Freeman seem to be going through the motions. It’s difficult to ignore the condescending and somewhat insulting depiction of Duddits, who is portrayed as an idiot savant, and the conclusion feels incredibly silly. Nevertheless, if you have some free time, you could do worse. It's a film of modest quality with a cast that seems much more significant, and its production costs reflect this disparity.
