This is a fairly agreeable fantasy movie from Disney, though it does run on for too long. *Dragonslayer* manages to be decent. There are aspects of the settings that appeal to me, and even the special effects, which are clearly products of their time, have some charm. What didn't work so well were the actors, the characters they portray, and the plot itself. I wasn’t bored while watching them unfold, but I didn't develop a strong connection to any of those elements. Peter MacNicol, who is familiar from 1997's *Bean*, isn't bad as Galen, but he doesn’t stand out and is largely unremarkable. The other performers are similar; their portrayals aren't likely to be memorable either. It’s easy to understand why others might find enjoyment in this film. I did too, just not overwhelmingly so.
